Profile: It was a glass of 1989 Te Mata Coleraine while working the late shift in a Christchurch bar as a student back in the ‘90s that did it; and in 1998 after a career in rock n roll management, music publicity & broadcasting, Yvonne ventured home to Hawkes Bay to work on how to earn a living in wine. While studying Wine Marketing at the world-renowned Roseworthy College in Adelaide, she worked in cellar doors and wine stores, ran winery restaurants and began writing about wine for newspapers. These days she’s a 39 year old mother of two and wife of one, and profiling new wine brands, wineries, wine personalities and the odd craft beer thrown in for good measure is what her columns tend to focus on. In addition to writing for many newspapers around the country each week, she’s also the drinks writer for Dish Magazine, a bi-monthly glossy packed full of delicious food and wine combos. She also has a fortnightly wine segment on Radio NZ National on Jim Mora’s ‘Afternoons’ show along with a weekly Saturday morning wine spot on Tony Murrel’s Home and Garden show on Radio Live. Yvonne also presents, researches and produces a wine show on Food TV called Thirsty Work http://www.thirstyworktv.com. It debuted in August 2012 and Series 2 is set to screen in June 2013. Yvonne has been actively judging at regional, national and international wine shows around New Zealand since 2003.
